Italian expert says:''Holy Shroud was Giotto's and not Jesus''

Italian expert Luciano Buso claims the Holy Shroud of Turin was not Jesus' but it was actually created by Giotto.The shroud, believed by Catholics to be the cloth wrapped around Christ after death is visited by countless travelers to the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin. The cloth is extremely fragile, however, so it is rarely on public display.Original photographs and black and white negatives of the cloth reveal images of a man who suffered intense physical trauma. In addition, the cloth is stained with blood and no tests have proved that the shroud was in any way painted.Buso, a painter and art restorer from Treviso, argues that extensive study of the photographs reveal clues that correspond with the carbon dates for the cloth. Religious experts continue to contest the carbon dates that have placed the origin of the cloth in the early 14th century. Buso believes Giotto inserted the number 15 into his piece to indicate that he created it in 1315.“I have examined extremely clear photos of the shroud and spotted a number of occurrences of the number 15, in the face (of Christ), the hands, and in one case even shaped to look like a long cross,” Buso says.Buso has written a book about his claims in which he also argues that Giotto did not create the shroud as a hoax. Rather, he created a copy that he clearly signed to avoid confusion with the real thing.“He wasn’t trying to fake anything, which is clear from the fact that he signed it ‘Giotto 15’ to authenticate it as his own work from 1315,” Buso says.
