Saint John

On 24 June in Florence is a feast of the patron, St. John the Baptist, the one that is dedicated to the Baptistery.
A day full of events in the city, rooted in history and are repeated year after year, followed by the Florentines with passion and with interest from tourists.
The tournament is played between the four historic districts of the city: the kicking of S. John formed the team of "Green", those of S. Maria Novella, the team of "Red", those of S. Cross are the "Blue" and those of S. Spirit belong to the team of "White".
In football the historical equivalent of a goal is the hunt, the prize is a calf. The Football Town, also called football in costume, was played in the most important squares of the city until the eighteenth century, then the tradition fell into disuse until May of 1930 (the fourth centenary of the siege of Florence).
Today we play three games, two semi-finals on 18 and 19 June, the final, which takes place on June 24, in Piazza Santa Croce.
The match is preceded by a parade through the streets of downtown with over 500 people in costume, according to the label of the sixteenth century.
The parade leaves at 16 from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and along Via Tornabuoni, Piazza della Repubblica, Via Calzaioli, Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce, Borgo Santa Croce, arrives in the square.
The final match begins at 17.
